Shaman's Harvest - Shine
Shaman’s Harvest is a band
that comes from the state of Missouri. Their recent album Shine
released in 2009 was given to me for review and to be honest before
the plans and preparations for the Rock on the Range tour I have not
heard of this band. Therefore, with that said, I started at the
beginning and this is how the album made me feel from beginning to
the end.
“Dragonfly” is the first song on the album and this song kicks ass! Nathan “Drake” Hunt has a powerful , soulful, and beautiful voice. You can just feel how powerful and meaningful the lyrics are felt by all of the band members by how clean and precise they play their instruments.
Moving on to the next track on the album, I came to the song “Turn It Up”. This song made me smile and want to sing; only trouble is I did not know the words so I must keep playing this track. However, the song has a great pace for dancing and it is very catchy and pleasing to the ear.
The next track on the list is “Last Goodbye” this is the first ballad on the album. This track has some great harmonies and once again, you hear that beautiful soulful sound from Nathan “Drake” Hunt.
“Wait In The Light” is the following song on the album and this song is so full of power, the guitar riffs delivered in this song come courtesy of the very talented Josh Hamler and Ryan Tomlinson. These guys create the power in this song that is also driven by the bass lines and the drum beats.
The next track on the album is the title track “Shine”, this song is an in your face, fast paced, and aggressive, song. This song also has some very powerful drum beats, guitar riffs, and bass lines, as well as some powerful lyrics. This track made me feel empowered to be who I am and not let anyone bring me down or tell me any different. It’s a great song to give that listener a pep talk if they need it.
Moving on to the next track is the very bluesy, and soulful track “Devil’s Gift”. If the listener listens closely to the lyrics of the song, they can hear the story they tell about a person receiving a special gift but having to pay consequences. This song gives me the memories of that old movie called “Crossroads” with Steve Vai and Ralph Macchio. The song has that old school feel and the harmonies give this song a very likable appeal.
The next track on the list is “Strike The Slate”. This song has that spiritual sound, the lyrics again like the other songs tell a story. The vocals, guitars, drums, and bass combined together create a very spiritual almost native American style sound in various parts of the song. This song has a lot of soothing and powerful qualities about it that makes this song a good one to listen too.
The last and final track on this album is
another ballad that gave me a country pouch jam type feel it’s
called “Say The Same”. The
lyrics are describing in my opinion the thoughts of a person that
has done things to change their life for the better and they are
asking the other person in their live if they have done the same.
This song is a very good soothing song that can tend to make you
think about one’s own life and in they can
“Say The Same”.
In my opinion, I enjoyed this whole album and I am glad I was introduced to this band, because I’m interested to see what they have done and what are they going to do next. I truly look forward to seeing them perform live at Columbus, Ohio’s 2010 Rock on the Range Festival, and I look forward to meeting them and getting to express my appreciation for the wonderful job they have done with this album.
