Live Interview with Dave Lombardo from the band Slayer conducted by Miranda Wilson (Aka Sidine). I would personally like to take this opportunity to thank the Dave for sitting down with me and taking the time to answer a few questions, it was truly a pleasure to speak with him.
Miranda: My first question is how does it feel to be in a band for so long and be around for so long?
Dave: Pretty lucky. I very really really lucky, there is a lot of musicians that come and go, and there is no longevity in their work. Because they have either made stupid decisions, and as far as I'm concerned I should feel very fortunate.
Miranda: Okay you guys have a new album coming out, it has came out yet right?
Dave: No
Miranda: It's suppose to come out in September.
Dave: the second or third week in September.
Miranda: Tell me about the record
Dave: Okay, let's see um, it's the second record since I've been back in the band. Because I was away from the band for like 10 years. I did one record now this is the second one. I'm really excited about this one because, when we were rehearsing with it to do the new record we did the songs with a producer in the room with us, and he became almost like a 5th member of the band. He was really helping us out with the sections and the music, he gave us ideas to try, and it was different than all other producers. This record really takes me back to how Rick Ruben used to work with us, you know where he was hands on he was with the band, giving at least me a lot of ideas and a lot of input on things to do, and Greg he does the same. So and the songs are fabulous, their amazing.
Miranda: Once the festival is over and the album is released, does the band have plans for domination, the Slayer way?
Dave: YES! We got so much lined up right now he have um, after this tour ends we go to Europe and we do just 2 shows, and some press. The 3 or 4 days in London I think we will be, and we'll be doing some press for the new record, then after that we go home for like a couple few weeks, then we go to Australia, New Zealand, and Japan, and then after that I think we do a European tour.
Miranda: Okay, Whenever I heard about the festival, for this year and the lineup, and it said Slayer and Manson are together doing, I was like where did Slayer come back from? I had thought you guys took a break for awhile.
Dave: No! we've always been there, we've been working. If you look at our history of touring we're constantly touring.
Miranda: So you guys were still there, I guess people got more engorged with the other music coming out in today's music world.
Dave: Yeah, absolutely and it is good promotion so the name gets out a little further fan base, you know. So it makes the band more accessible, and makes the band more um, I think prominent in their career.
Miranda: Yeah and touring with some of the newer acts such as All That Remains and other acts you are introducing new fans the newer younger generation that didn't grow up with Slayer to them so you guys are gaining new fans.
Dave: Yeah I know we've been around for awhile.
Miranda: I had read somewhere your recent album, sounds a lot like the old Slayer albums.
Dave: Yes! The way it sounds is very organic, (laughs) I don't know if that is the right word to call a Slayer record, but Organic in a sense that is sounds real it doesn't sound processed. Greg and the engineer really really worked on my drums really well and they got what I really wanted, and it's really sounding drums.
Miranda: It doesn't sound studio'd or fake.
Dave: No it doesn't and also the music, the guitar riffs the Kerry and Jeff wrote there for some reason very um, there on fire. Their playing is really really good, and some of the riffs sound like the old records you know the those old riffs that were really catchy and very very traditional.
Miranda: So the old Slayer is back
Dave: We've been back, but maybe we just try new things.
Miranda: Well you have to try new things that's how you grow.
Dave: exactly
Miranda: Um, Finally Question. Do you have any message for the old and the new Slayer fans?
Dave: A message . . .
Miranda: Any kind of message.
Dave: um, god I can't think of anything (laughs). Hey Fans Out There Rock ON! Thanks for being around and see you soon on tour and see ya there!
