Sidine - How did you guys come up with the name Fist of the North Star?
KD - It actually came from a old nintendo game. It was a shitty game that you could never beat because of a glitch in it.
Sidine - How did you guys meet, and how long have you guys been together?
KD - Edwin joined the band about two years ago at an audition we set up through the internet. We played a show with a band called All Opposed a year later that was a three piece looking for a vocalist and bassist. After our drummer quit for a job opportunity, we joined up with them, keeped our name and used half our songs and half theirs to tour the West Coast during the summer of 07'. We broke up for a few months after the tour, then rejoined with one of the guitarists, Chris, and started playing again as a three piece.
Sidine - How would you guys classify your sound?
KD - We really dont, but if we were forced to call it something, I think it would be Thrash Punk. We just try to play to all types of crowds and hope that people like our sound.
Sidine - (off the wall question) Why the fuck is your background and text on your MySpace page white?
KD - I was actually not aware that it shows up as white on white on some peoples computers. On mine its Black with white text.
Sidine - What are your musical influences?
KD - If I had to name a band for each of us, I would say.
Me - Rage Against the Machine
Edwin - Murder City Devils
Chris - NOFX
Sidine - Have any of you guys been in any other bands?
KD - All of us have played a numerous bands before Fist, but none are really worth mentioning.
Sidine - Who does most of the song writing for the band?
KD - Edwin does 99% of the lyric writing for the songs and all of us have contributed to the music writing with riffs or entire songs.
Sidine - What can a new comer expect to see at one of your shows?
KD - Beer, sweat, jesus bashing, and three guys putting all they can into playing fast ass music to whoever will listen.
Sidine - How long have you guys been playing your current weapons of choice?
KD - Ive had my Ernie Ball stingray for a little over a year now. Chris has had his SG for a few years I believe and Edwin has owned his mic for a little over a year. The Pearl drum set was purchased about two years ago.
Sidine - Has Fist of the North Star always been a 3 man show?
KD - Hell no. We've been a three piece, four piece, five piece and a few times a two piece looking for drummers. We've had a bad history with shitty members, but we have finally found the combination of musicians that are hard working and enjoy what we're doing.
Sidine - What makes Edwin want to do vocals and drums, that combo I have seen done but it seems difficult.
KD - Edwin and I used to write the songs with him on drums and me playing bass, but the only actual reason hes playing drums is because we cant find anyone who can play the music, tour as much as we do and is willing to put everything into the band. Edwin is actually a great frontman. Do you know of any drummers?
Sidine - Are there any gamers in the band?
KD - I used to play a lot of EA sports games, but between the band and my label I dont have much free time anymore. I do own a playstaion 2 and occasionally will dust off the controllers for a game or two. Edwin owns a Wi and plays when he's drunk. I dont believe Chris plays any games. I do play a lot of spades and poker online if that counts.
Sidine - What's your view on Illegal music downloads (such as Lime wire and other file share networks)?
KD - Its kind of shitty, but it can be good getting your music heard. I guess it hurts the bigger bands the most. Bands will just have to start making their CD packages creative and maybe it will influence people to collect the package with the music. Ive always enjoyed checking out the inserts and shit in CD's, so I will always buy music the right way.
Sidine - Has MySpace helped populate the band's fan base?
KD - Very much. Not only with helping with fans, but finding new venues to play. Shit we have kids in Japan, Europe, Australia, all over the world that would have never heard us if not for sites like myspace.
Sidine - Why do you want to beat up Baby Jesus?
KD - Me and Edwin both believe the bible is bullshit. A bunch of fictional stories that were made up and we use our music to express that opinion. But noone named Jesus was actually harmed in writing our CD.
