At that show, FFDP absolutely blew all of the other bands away with their talent. Every since them, I think I’ve seen them more than any other band. I even discovered other bands that I fell in love with once I saw them, like In This Moment.

Through the years, they replaced Darrell Roberts and Matt Snell, but still were able to keep the same sound and vibe that had always impressed the hell out of me. But lately two things really bothered me. First, the last time I saw them on the Tresspass America tour, their music and show was absolutely amazing, as always, but they seemed to rely heavily on big flashy LCD. And next, I found out that FDDP is putting out not one, but two albums this year (The Wrong Side of Heaven and the Righteous Side of Hell volume 1 & 2). This was a huge red flag for me because I’ve seen other great bands like Metallica go down this route where it seems that the bands priority switches to money instead of their fans and the music.

So this morning I bought their new single released today, “Lift Me Up” featuring Judas Priest’s Rob Halford. I’ve gotta say, that if the band keeps this type of momentum going with volume 1 and 2 of their next albums, then my fears were squashed and that these CDs are going to be nothing short of bad ass. Then I read a quote from Zoltan Bathory:

“We came off the road after a couple of great years of touring and were really amped up to write the 4th record. Everybody was in the right headspace and the band tighter than ever so it was a perfect storm. We jumped in head first and found ourselves 12-13 songs deep fairly quick but were still coming up with better and better material so we looked at each other and said… okay why stop there?… let’s keep going. Once we passed the 24th song we knew we’re going to have to do a double album. We had this massive amount of music that’s very dear to us, possibly the best material this band has ever created. At that point there was no way to decide which songs to leave off the album. So we made the decision to release them all.”

That made me feel even more confident in their new albums, seeing as how it looks like they want to give the fans what they want, instead of just wanting to put out more CDs to get people to spend twice as much on them. Five Finger Death Punch has continually raised the bar for every CD that they put out, and every time they’ve beat expectations. I can’t wait to hear more to see if they can keep up the momentum.

The Wrong Side of Heaven and the Righteous Side of Hell Volume 1 will be out July 23rd, and Volume 2 will be out in the fall.

Upon the band’s return to the U.S., the band will co-headline the 2013 Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival alongside Rob Zombie kicking off in San Bernadino, CA on June 29. The travelling festival will stage appearances in 26 markets, and the full itinerary can be viewed here: www.fivefingerdeathpunch.com/tour/

I can’t say that I’m the biggest Slayer fan on the web, but they are one of the metal bands that I always have had a huge respect for, not only because of their enormous talent, but the fact that they’ve continually given their fans what they want. Jeff’s skills with the guitar are legendary, and he will live on through his fan base and the enormous influence that he has had on the industry.

3 DOORS DOWN ANNOUNCE ONE-TIME ONLY EXCLUSIVE ACOUSTIC ENGAGEMENT

MAY 4TH AT NASHVILLE’S WAR MEMORIAL

Nashville, TN – 3 Doors Down has announced a one-time only exclusive engagement staged to present all the hits as acoustic performances. The five band members now call Nashville home, and have chosen the War Memorial as the venue for this special evening on May 4 at 8PM. Tickets will go on sale Friday, March 1. The event is presented by WBUZ. Singer Brad Arnold shares, “We all call Nashville home, and we cannot wait to perform for our fans in a more intimate setting at War Memorial. It will also be the first time we have performed a full set acoustically. It’s going to be a great evening.”

Originally from Escatawpa, MS, all five members have now emigrated to Music City. With the recent release The Greatest Hits, featuring the Top 10 single “One Light,” the idea of this special evening was hatched. 3 Doors Down guitarist Chris Henderson offers, “These songs translate so well from the electric versions. We go through and strip each one down to figure out what will work best for this type of show. It’s a reimagining of the songs.”

While many greatest hits albums signify the end of a career, the band’s recent release is the origin of a new chapter. Historically, few artists over the past two decades have enjoyed a greater level of radio airplay success than 3 Doors Down, and with “One Light” hitting the Top 10 at the Active Rock format and reaching the Top 3 at Mainstream rock, the band has once again proven they are hit makers. The Greatest Hits via long-time label partner Republic Records was released on November 19, 2012. The collection features nine #1 hits that have been remixed and re-mastered, alongside three new songs. The full track-listing includes “Kryptonite,” “When I’m Gone,” “Here Without You,” “It’s Not My Time,” “Let Me Go,” “Be Like That,” “Loser,” “Away From The Sun,” “Duck and Run,” “One Light,” “There’s A Life,” and “Goodbyes.”

Currently the band is in the midst of a co-headline tour with Daughtry, alongside isolated dates that recently brought them to Dubai and will feature an appearances in Mexico in March. Following U.S. festival appearances in April and May, the band travels to Russia, Finland, Scandinavia, destinations across Europe, and the U.K. For the complete itinerary, click here: http://www.3doorsdown.com/events

Every year, it has been tradition for Vans Warped Tour founder and producer Kevin Lyman to personally handpick an up-and-coming, 100% independent act to be the official BBQ Band for the tour. The BBQ Band

is given a slot on the Ernie Ball stage each year in trade for serving up the delicious food consumed at each post-show BBQ. Many bands have made their start as a Vans Warped Tour BBQ Band, including Dropkick Murphys, Longway and others.

This year, Hollywood, CA’s own ART OF SHOCK has been chosen for the prestigious honor. Vans Warped Tour founder and producer Kevin Lyman states, “I’m glad to have ART OF SHOCK out on the grill and on stage this year!”

The Sunset Strip favorites, known for their unique fusion of modern and classic rock influences, have been taking Los Angeles and Southern California by storm for the past few years with their over-the-top performances.

On Feb. 10, 2013 at Marathon Music Works in Nashville, Tn. the tour featuring Sevendust, Lacuna Coil, and Avatar came performed. This line up had a few firsts for me, those being seeing both Lacuna Coil and Avatar for the first time and attending a concert at the Marathon for the first time also.

Avatar is one of the most entertaining metal bands I have seen in a long time. The band did not need anything fancy on their stage because singer Johannes Eckerström was able to entertain the crowd with just his facial expressions alone. Each member on the stage was extremely talented and showed that they were just as eager to be there as the fans where. Avatar is more than just growling and heavy guitar riffs they had a classical flare to them as well that was shown in their performance of the song the “Black Waltz” from Avatar’s recent album also titled Black Waltz. After their performance Avatar met fans over at their merch booth to take photos, sign autographs, introduce themselves personally and thank fans for coming out to the show.

Lacuna Coil was the next band to take the stage, and it was a first time for me to see them as well. The energy from the band and the crowd was phenomenal, the crowd sang along with singers Cristina Scabbia and Andrea Ferro. Something that caught my attention was how well both singers sounded together, Cristina’s feminine tones matched perfectly with Andrea’s masculine vibrato. Both singers commanded the stage and the attention of the crowd as the moved around interacting with their fellow band mates. Amongst the set list the band performed songs such as “Trip the Darkness” from their album Dark Adrenaline which was released in early 2012 and is the band’s 6th studio album. On my list of bands I have wanted to see in my life time I can now cross Lacuna Coil off and will be looking forward to seeing them again in the future.

As the night rocked on the crowd in the Marathon Music Works grew in size, anyone could tell that all the band of the night was slated to take the stage soon.

When Sevendust took the stage they were met with a volume of cheers and screams that had only been swelling up throughout the night, which fueled the fire for a stellar performance. However whether this was your first time experiencing Sevendust or your 100th time seeing them perform the fans can never get enough. For me as a fan I do not know whether it was the songs, the heartfelt thank yous from the band, or the entertaining way Morgan Rose plays the drums that makes my heart smile very time I see or hear a song by them. By the reaction to the crowd and of them singing along with Lajon Witherspoon, I am confident that the crowd feels the same way I do when it comes to Sevendust. With the release of their new album titled Black Out The Sun coming soon this tour is a good way for Sevendust fans to get small tastes of the new songs that could be on the album.

This tour provided the fans with a night of kick ass music and may have introduced the crowd to new types of music/bands as well. I do know from my perspective it was a pleasure seeing both Avatar and Lacuna Coil for the first time as well as seeing Sevendust again. Anytime Sevendust comes through Nashville or close by you will be sure to find me amongst the millions of fans in the crowd. Hell! We even followed them amongst other bands on Shiprocked 2012 tour cruise to the Bahamas.

This is definitely a tour to catch as it comes to a town close to you, it is worth the money paid for a night of great music and excellent entertainment as all the bands featured on this tour has excellent stage presence and crowd interaction. The dates are below for the tour, so what are you waiting for?

On Feb 8, 2013 at Bridgestone Arena the concert tour featuring POD, Three Days Grace, and Shinedown rolled through Nashville, TN. this was a night for any fan to remember, but you can say that about any concert you attend for the most part. However this night seemed to encompass a couple of firsts for a lot of the fans that were at the concert. While waiting for the show to begin I spent my time speaking with fans around me to just kill the time and I learned that this was one young guys first concert, and another person I spoke this was her first rock concert and she was attending it with her boyfriend and his friends to see what it was like. I hope this was a show to remember for both of the fans I spoke with, and it sparks many more concerts to come for those individuals.

This tour was perfectly crafted from the band line up, the stage set up, the light, sound, and pyro nothing seemed to be out of place or hard to see for the floor area of the venue. It was nice to be able to see all the band members from the singers, guitar players, all the way to the drummers in the back. It was nice to be able to see them all in action. Each band seemed to have their own personality when it come to stage decor and pyro set ups. POD had very little cluttering their stage performance, Three Days Grace and Shinedown didn’t have much cluttering their performance area either and that allows the crowd to focus more on the songs and performance rather then seeing over a stand, or piece of stage decor. The pyro and gun shot blasts where nice touches to the songs performed by Three Days Grace and Shinedown which gave the songs that added flare. Overviews of the bands individual performances are listed below I tried to not include to many spoilers for those readers that are planning to attend the concert as it rolls through their town. Apart of the surprise is not knowing all the details before you have a chance to experience first hand.

POD

Although I have never seen this band live on stage, I have often found their songs among the playlists on my MP3 player, at the gym, in the car, and on the computer. So on this night, it was a big treat for me and those in the crowd like me, to see that came to see this band perform live for the first time. The show started 10 minutes early and it was POD that took the stage first to warm up the crowd and boy did they ever. The first song that POD reeled the crowd in with was titled Lost In Forever, which is the band’s leading single from their 2012 album Murdered Love. The crowd sang along with the POD who came out clearly to rock the crowd for full length of their stage time, because the energy this band produced radiated throughout the arena. POD delivered, in my opinion, a powerful set-list of songs that obviously left the crowd screaming for more. Other songs that the band performed that night where: Boom!, Higher, Murdered Love, and Set It Off. POD closed their show with the 12 year old classic, Youth of the Nation, in which singer Sonny Sandoval encouraged the crowed to sing along, this part of the performance was breath-taking to hear hundreds of voices singing in what sounded like in unison was completely mind blowing and a memory with reminding.

Three Days Grace

The opening to the stage for Three Days Grace featured a large back drop of Seattle in a wasteland type scene with a hanging illuminated Vegas style sign that read ” Welcome to Las Venus Tennessee”. When Three Days Grace took the stage and the music started the band was featuring new front-man Matt Walst formerly of the band My Darkest Days. Three Days Grace opened up with their hit song Chalk Outline in which appeared to please the crowd very much, as you could hear the crowd singing along with the band. They moved around the stage with each song so they could see the crowd and vice versa. The band played a long set featuring almost if not all of their hits including Break Away, Good Life, So Cold, and Pain, in which Matt did a stellar job at duel singing between the standard mic and another mic with a voice modulation programmed to it. Between the stage setup and the powerful setlist they performed with a powerful grace that is worth the ticket cost to see them perform. However during the final few songs the band did happen to slip in a cover of Limp Bizkit’s Just One of Those Days, which was a nice segway in to their 4th hit single from their One-X album the band closed their portion of the show with the song Riot.

Shinedown

For those of you reading this article that have attended a Shinedown concert before you know this band does not disappoint. They performed songs from all the past and present albums opening up the show with their latest hit single Enemies. This performance featured the band members in separate areas of the venue for the first half of the song only to have them to join drummer Barry Kerch on stage for the last chorus of the song. During the show they performed not only performed powerful songs such as Diamond Eyes (Boom-Lay Boom-Lay Boom), Sound of Madness, Devour, and Crow and the Butterfly, but they slowed the performance down for acoustic songs such as Simple Man and Amaryllis. Brent Smith and the band took time during their performance to thank the fans for their support not only for Shinedown as fans but for all of the bands on the tour as well. Shinedown has always amazed me with their performances and songs about current and real life events, each show seems like the band is opening their heart up to the crowd. From the heart felt songs, to the circular screen onstage, and random appearances in the middle of the crowd Shinedown has never given a dull show. This band has continued to impress us every time we see them and has easily earned a spot as one of our favorite bands to see live. This tour is well worth the money spent to see it.

Shinedown’s singer, Brent Smith, summed up the night perfectly,”rock’n'roll isn’t a genre of music, its a way of life.”
