2nd Person dies at Bonaroo 2011
by Shane on Jun.13, 2011, under Concert News
Again people, if you are heading to these festivals take care of yourself. Drink water, don’t over do it on the drugs or alcohol, and get out of the sun if you are getting too hot. This is the 2nd person that has died this year at Bonaroo this year which is sad.
Every year when I attend the festivals I see a lot of people carried off, and most of them are due to heat related causes instead of them getting hurt while mosh pitting or things like that. Last year at Mayhem I even witnessed a woman pass out in front of me. So take care of yourselves, because your friends, your family, and the bands really don’t want to see anyone get hurt or die from the heat.
Just a note: when I first read this, I thought it said that he died of hypothermia, and aparently some other people missed that too. But hyperthermia is when your body temp is too high (the opposite of hypothermia).

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Bonnaroo organizers have reported that a second person has died after attending the festival.
Organizers said 24-year-old Christopher Yoder, from Raleigh, N.C., was brought to the main medical tent in the camping area around 1:52 a.m. on Saturday. He was airlifted to Erlanger hospital in Chattanooga where died about two and half hours later.
It is believed he died from hyperthermia, but the Coffee County sheriff’s department is waiting on toxicology results.
Bonnaroo organizers released a statement saying “The safety of our patrons is our number one concern, and we are deeply saddened by this. Our condolences go out to his family and friends.”
On Thursday, the body of 32-year-old Beth Myers was found inside a tent. An autopsy is underway to determine the cause of death.
Officials said they treated more than 1,000 people for heat related issues. Ninety percent of everyone who received medical care at the four-day music and arts festival had an issue related to the heat.
According to Coffee County Sheriff Steve Graves, more than 300 people at the festival were issued citations for various charges and 45 people were arrested. Most of the arrests are for domestic violence and drug related charges.
The 10th annual festival, with 80,000 attendees, was Thursday through Sunday at a 700-acre farm.

Festivals are fun, I absolutely love them, but they also generally occur during the hottest months of the year. So if you are attending use some common sense. Drink water, wear sun screen, and if you get too hot get out of the sun. It isn’t always the easiest thing to do. And if your friends give you shit about it, then they aren’t your friends anyways.

MANCHESTER, Tenn. – The woman found dead at the Bonnaroo music festival in Manchester has been identified as 32-year-old Beth Myers of Harrisburg, Pa. Officials said there was no sign of trauma.
Coffee County Sheriff Steve Graves said Myers was found dead at her campsite by her friends around 11 p.m. Thursday.
The cause of death was unknown. The state medical examiner’s office will perform an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
The high temperature in Manchester where Bonnaroo is staged was 91 degrees on Thursday.
Bonnaroo officials released the following statement:
“The safety and security of our guests is always our top priority, and we are saddened to report that a festival goer has died. We can confirm that last night around 11 p.m., festival medical personnel received a call from the camping area; they responded immediately and were on the scene within minutes. Unfortunately, the 32-year-old female was pronounced dead at the scene. Per protocol standards, we contacted the Coffee County sheriff’s office. Coffee County personnel reported to the site, and any further information will come from their office. Our condolences go out to her family and friends.”
A 29-year-old North Carolina man died of heat stroke at last year’s festival. Officials said David Sloane collapsed in front of medical personnel. He was rushed to the hospital, where he later died.
The Tullahoma News reported Sloane had a core body temperature of 108 degrees.
In 2009, an Alabama man also died while attending Bonnaroo. Officials said a clean-up crew found 26-year-old Matthew Lands’ body inside his single-person tent.
A Kentucky man also died at the festival in 2007. Officials said the 25-year-old died on the first full day of the event.
In each death, preliminary examinations did not show any signs of trauma.
The four-day outdoor music festival draws over 80,000 people annually. Attendants can either pitch tents and camp on the 700-acre farm, or bring an RV.
Temperatures have ranged in the low to mid 90s.
Event organizers recommend attendants stay hydrated and drink plenty of water. Several portable water stations have been provided on site, and officials advise concert-goers bring plenty of water that can be carried easily.
Emergency medical personnel and security personnel are also on site throughout the entire festival to offer assistance.

“This EP is all about fighting off your demons and finding self empowerment, which is something we can all relate to,” states guitarist Jake Nolan. “Musically, we just wanted to write the most fun and colorful piece of art that we could while still capturing the message behind it and the overall mood. At the same time we wanted to create something all heavy music fans alike could easily digest and move too. I am proud of this release, and I am so happy that we are able to share it in it’s entirety with anyone who wants to hear it for free. This is our gift to the masses, we hope you like our music and share our gift to all of your friends.”
THE PARAMEDIC couldn’t be happier to announce their new relationship with the incredible management group, Outerloop Management (Comeback Kid, The Color Morale, We Came As Romans, Emery). “These are some of the hardest working guys I have worked with,” states Derek Brewer of Outerloop Management. “They know the true meaning of what it takes to be musicians. Writing catchy hooks and mind-blowing licks is what these guys are all about. In every regard, in anything they do, they do not accept anything but the greatest.”
Guitarist Jake Nolan was introduced to bassist Ryan Meyers at a Mötley Crüe concert, where they both happened to stumble into a verbal altercation with several other fans over which was the better band; Whitesnake or Mötley Crüe. After hashing it out through lengthy discussion, the two subsequently discovered their similar desires of creating a band.
Jake and Ryan continued on to jam with each other outside of several individual projects they were working on. Eventually, the two decided to recruit the best members from the local scene’s finest musical offerings to form THE PARAMEDIC. Jake and Ryan quickly became friends with guitarist Alex Asch after witnessing his incredible talent while shredding outside of U.S. Bank Arena during a Metallica show. The group then discovered drummer Kevin Vincent jamming in a sound room of the Drum Department at Hauer Music in Dayton, Ohio. After seeing him destroy a set of drums and hearing his outstanding progressive drumming style, they knew he was a key element in setting them apart from other bands. After all of the instrumentals were in place, the band set their sites on young vocalist Michael Luciano. The band heard Michael’s powerful and R&B-esque style vocals one night at a jazz club while out on the town in Cincinnati, Ohio. They instantly offered him the position of vocalist, in which Michael took the opportunity and left his then-current band. And thus, THE PARAMEDIC was formed.
With an unbridled fury of sound that does nothing short of make you want to get on your feet and move, THE PARAMEDIC is ready for nothing less than world domination.
THE PARAMEDIC is:
Michael Luciano – Vocals
Jake Nolan – Guitarist
Alex Asch – Guitarist
Ryan Meyers – Bassist
Kevin Vincent – Drummer
