Who Killed Harry Dresden?

Ghost Story releases 07.26.11

***Spoiler alert, if you have not read Changes yet, you may not want to read this posting***

You may also want to read the first Chapter of Ghost Story, which can be read here

While every book from the Dresden Files has left me wanting more, none of them have had the impact that the end of Changes had. Ever since getting to the end, I’ve been wondering who “who killed Harry?”.   I have a few theories on this, and a lot of them spin off from other theories I have on some of the upcoming plots for the book. I will be posting those theories in the next few days.

But right now, the important question is: Who shot Harry?

  • Father Roarke Douglas – This guy is the bad ass from Butcher’s short story The Warrior. He is relentless, believes in what he is doing, and doesn’t care if someone gets hurt while he is doing what he thinks is best. He’s already used a 50 cal rifle against Harry before, and from reading Aftermath, I wouldn’t be surprised if it was a 50 cal that took out Dresden. The bullet went through Harry, and through the boat. No body, no round was found. This means its a very high powered rifle, and you don’t get too much more powerful than the Barret 50 cal. I personally think that he now has one of the coins, quite possibly even had it during The Warrior. Since the other team was cheating, I have a feeling that his free will was taken away from him when he took up the coin, but has since began working with the fallen.  Likelihood – Medium High
  • Ace – Changeling from Summer Knight – One thing I’ve noticed is Butcher likes to bring back minor characters later on (Peabody & Thomas are perfect examples). He’s a weakling, a coward, and a perfect person to get a hold of one of the coins. Being a changeling, he likely has at least some fae like abilities that he inherited, which would be a nice boon for the Order of the Blackened Denarius. He also has a history with using rifles to try to kill Harry, maybe he’s had a few years to better his aim. And finally, he’s one of the characters that Butcher can bring back that most people have already forgotten about.  Likelihood – Medium
  • Fix – The Summer Knight – Since Harry is technically the Winter Knight at the end of Changes, then Harry is fair game. Could have been preemptive since he and the Summer Court would stand little chance against him. But it doesn’t really fit into the first chapter of Ghost Story where it more or less says the reason he didn’t move on is because the other side cheated. So this leads me to believe that this is not the case, unless Aurora (the Summer Queen) has decided to pick up a coin (more info on that will be on the conspiracy theory post coming soon)  Likelihood – Low
  • Jared Kincaid (The Hellhound, Ivy’s Personal Bodyguard, Karrin Murphy’s boy toy) – This is the obvious first choice when looking for likely candidates. 1) Harry was shot the same way that Kincaid told him that he would kill him if he did not pay up in Blood Rites. 2) Harry was about to sleep with Karrin, whom Kincaid has been seeing casually for a few years now. But there are some problems with this. 1) It is just too easy, and one thing that Jim Butcher does not do is give a straight up obvious answer like this. 2) Kincaid would have probably put one through Harry’s head just to make sure there was no death curse, Harry’s bullet wound was effective but not as efficient as I think Kincaid would have been. Likelihood – Low
  • “Gentleman” Johnny Marcone – Mob Boss of Chicago – He and Harry have no love loss between each other, but there is some respect between them, so I don’t see this happening at all. Likelihood – Very Low

There are a few other theories that I have, and as I formulate them I will post them. Let me know what you think whether you think I may have something or if I’m way off the trail.

Either way, Ghost Story is probably the only book that I’ve ever been this anxious to get my hands on.

Your First and Most Memorable concert …?

by sidine on May.15, 2010, under Randomness

This is something to think about, I was driving back today from picking up lunch and was thinking about my first and most memorable concert. Let me tell you about and please hold you laughter til the end.

I dont remember the year but I do remember I was in Middle/High school and it was on valentines day. My first concert was Hootie and the Blowfish. I know I know … laugh now if you must. But that is what sparked my interest in wanting to talk to bands and help fuel the blaze for music even more. I had already started playing bass guitar because my brothers garage band was the coolest to me at the time. But to see that band on the stage just made me want to do something more with music. So that was my first concert, My most Memorable concert I would have to say was my first Slipknot show. granted I liked their music and yeah I was a fan, but to see them live WOW! I really became a fan and that sparking a fire that made me a Maggot thru and thru. To see them live and from the photo/press pit just made that night glorious. From that day forward every time I get in the photo pit I’m just in awe and i’m trying to capture every moment I can with the time limit we have.

With that being said tell us about your First concert and your Most Memorable…
