The Rev – RIP 12/28/09

by Shane on Jan.25, 2010, under Band News, The-Voices.net

I’m not one to talk good about someone just because they died. For example, I could care less that Michael Jackson died earlier in 2009. He was way past his prime, and in my opinion, the children of the world are safer now that he’s gone.

But when I found out that The Rev had died, I truly felt that the Metal world had taken a huge blow. He was easily one of the most talented drummers of his time. I, like the hundreds of thousands of A7X fans out there, was fortunate enough to see The Rev live, and he kicked ass. He was not only an extremely talented drummer, but was an extremely talented writer and vocalist. He wrote my favorite A7X song of all time, “A Little Piece of Heaven” and performed some of the vocals during the song. The metal scene will never be the same without him.

I know a lot of fans want to know all of the details about his tragic death, but in all honesty, it isn’t any of our business. Just take the news that you are given and don’t pry. Just respect the wishes of his family and his close friends. As the rest of the band said shortly after his death:

“It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we tell you of the passing today of Jimmy “The Rev” Sullivan. Jimmy was not only one of the world’s best drummers, but more importantly he was our best friend and brother. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Jimmy’s family and we hope that you will respect their privacy during this difficult time.

Jimmy you are forever in our hearts. We love you.”

Update: 2/28/10

I was surfing the net today and decided to check out the A7X site, and I noticed that they had this tribute video to the Rev. It shows some brief interviews about the Rev, some photos and videos of his life.

R.I.P. JIMMY “THE REV” SULLIVAN – TRIBUTE VIDEO from TWENTYFOURCORE Productions on Vimeo.

I think it’s pretty cool. I really like watching the progression of some of his tattoos throughout his life.

what do you mean it isnt any of our business we paid our hard earned money to go to those shows and to download those songs they owe us a fucking explanation on how he died

I am going to have to disagree with you there. Yes, you spent your hard earned money to support the band, but the band members are still people, and they deserve to be treated like people.

If they plan on releasing more information or not is the decision of his family and friends.

I finally watched this … and your right Shane it’s a good video depicting his life and progression of his musical career. My heart and thoughts are still with his widow/family and the band .. as they move on and heal during that time and the future.
